 La Rochelle Fort
Local Information:
Near a childrens park with play areas. An excellent location for many things: 4mins from airport, 5mins from Ile de Re bridge, 5-6 mins. from centre of old town and marinas (driving in normal conditions). Every Sunday there is a popular market at La Palice and so much to see and do in the area: boat trips, bike hire, seabus, beaches, aquarium, sea fishing, golf, horse riding, ten pin bowling, cinema, casino, restaurants, museums.
La Rochelle has two sandy beaches both within cycling distance, by local bus or short drive (4 mins. and approx. 8 mins. drive in good conditions). The Ile de Re bridge is approx. 5 mins drive and has many beaches to explore with villages. The Ile D`Aix is accessible by sea bus as is one side of the harbour to the newer Minimmes area and it`s beach.
La Rochelle benefits from an excellent sunshine record and has similar weather to the south of France. Outside of the main June, July, August and September holiday periods it can be very pleasant and surprisingly sunny.
Places to visit:
Cognac: Small town on the banks of the Charente river and home to brandy. Ile d'Oleron: Largest of the west coast islands with vast oyster beds and excellent beaches. Ile de Re: Chic destination with great charm. Beautiful sandy beaches, also ideal for cycling. La Rochelle: Old town with attractive fortified harbour.
